Studio Structure
Established in 1991, Letterbox undertakes typographic projects. Although the structure of the studio has evolved over time, one thing has always been important – the cross-pollination of client-commissioned projects (identity systems, signage systems, external publishing, font customisation) with studio-commissioned projects (publications, typeface design, lectures, forums, tours and exhibitions). The curiosity that fosters this research is completely integrated into how we design.

A Brief History
The first Letterbox studio was an old corner milk-bar in Northcote (seen being demolished in image above). In 1994 the studio moved operations into Carlow House, one of the cornerstone buildings in the then-fledgling artist community of Flinders Lane. Letterbox remained there for some 14 years before moving to custom-built studios in the very grand Hardwick Building on Sydney Road, Brunswick. Over the years designers at Letterbox have included Niels Oeltjen, Wendy Ellerton, Tim Mang, Sam Hughes, Nicola Schwandner, Daniel Lindh, Endré Berentzen and Tom Hall as well as many interns.
