Just getting into our ‘built’ section because of its thickness and significant weight, the Fat Ben’s Menu (or Benu as it was affectionately called) was an early Flinders Lane classic. And although the cafe is long gone the menu has become an enduring artifact of an earlier time when the lane was abuzz with artists, odd-balls and much lower rent. The metal menu covers were in fact made from petrol price signage – all hand-stolen, hand-cut and hand-bound. Our very own home-grown Flinders Lane Rosalie Gasciogne.
