The design of League emerged from a fascination with Gem, (a Dan-X-Solo face) alongside a fondness of Maple Black. Taking some influence from both these two faces, the Black was created. The Black Italic offered a way of creating some tonal difference and context to use some of the more lyrical and expressive letterforms.
