Characters and Spaces

writing and design Stephen Banham | publisher The State of Design Festival 2009

Characters & Spaces takes one Melbourne city block, peels back its layers of design and tells us the stories behind what we see in our visual environment. Things we may pass every day and not think twice about.

Across seventeen sites, seemingly unrelated things are then connected – a lettering style, an architectural façade, an art movement or an Olympic Games. Characters & Spaces also features a quiz to engage children with the design that surrounds them.

Characters & Spaces was produced through a partnership with the 2009 State of Design Festival and the Communication Design Program, RMIT University School of Design.
