Early visualisations of the Test Sites 2025

The Many Tales of Things presents is a non-human history of Melbourne. Highlighting the absurd harvesting of data in our everyday lives, this project is a playful intervention, proposing the idea that the the city itself (its alcoves, walls, streets etc) also have lived lives with stories to tell.

The 2025 proposal tests the deep observational methods used in previous works such as One Day In Our Park (where visual observation was paramount) and Monument to the Overheard (where audio observation was central) by expanding this across a city and to non-human subjects.

The project references earlier instances of data representation, from W.E.B Du Bois through to Otto Neurath and Ladislav Sutnar — but extends these ideas by placing such representations in the physical site ‘in which they live’. They are completely site-specific.
